LIGHT

3D Experimental video

Project Overview

This is a 3D animation that I made in my class at SCAD.

I want to use 3D modeling software such as C4D to explore what beautiful and complex interactions light and environment can produce.

Concept

When I first came into contact with C4D in college, I really liked the very delicate and interesting lighting in C4D.

The various variations of light have a crucial effect on the surrounding scene and the work as a whole, sometimes even more important than the subject itself.

I have always wanted to make a C4D work with light as the main object, and I hope to achieve my goal in this work.

First, I will give light to different shapes and different materials.

Then I would change the light intensity of the objects to the rhythm of the background music, allowing the surrounding environment to change with the light.

Moodboard

We can see that lighting plays a decisive role in the next C4D work.

The viewer’s eye is automatically drawn to the different shapes and textures of the lights.

The end result I wanted was a video with a relatively dim background environment that combined perfectly with the light of the image subject.

3D Scene Planning

Final Scenes

My video is divided into four parts:

Part ONE:

Technically, the first part of the video is the easiest to implement.

First I made the terrain and sky and found the right texture.

Next, I modeled a circular glass tube and made several luminous spheres rotating around the glass tube.

Part TWO:

I studied for several days how to light the tubes gradually and how to light them randomly.

Finally, I used Linear Field in Plain to gradually brighten the lamp.

I also used the Noise in the Shader to make the tubes glow randomly.

I used two clones, one luminous and one glass. This allows the tube to retain its material when it is not emitting light, rather than turning completely black.

Part THREE:

After understanding the knowledge of the second part, it was very easy for me to do the animation of the third part.

For the scene I used the Forester plugin to make it easier to create trees and grass.

Part FOUR:

The fourth part is the animation that I spent the longest time on.

I’ve been having trouble getting the light bulb to randomly light up while floating with the ocean for a long time.

Later I learned that I needed to change the Cloner of the bulb to Object and pull the ocean into the Object.
